- Which role are you applying for?:
- Non-Portfolio Officer
I am standing for the role of Non-Portfolio Officer, and I would love to take on the Equality & Diversity portfolio, with an aspect of welfare.
In a time where Flump is President of the US & BJ is Prime Minister of the UK, we need to come together more than ever to stop Brexit, tackle climate change, and end inequality.
This planet, but our country in particular, is in meltdown (literally.) The climate crisis needs tackling immediately and we need to take urgent steps to reduce the impact of climate change for all citizens across the globe. It is a fact that the top 100 corporations are accountable for 71% of greenhouse gas emissions. Following this, the people, societies, communities and countries emitting least if any at all, are the ones going to be hit hardest. Flash flooding, droughts, forest fires, hurricanes, natural disasters of all kinds will become more frequent and more intense. We need to take urgent action to protect the most vulnerable in society, and to protect the future of this planet.
I have previously been the Equality & Diversity Officer on the Exec from 2017-2018, and I would be honoured to be elected as this again. This role was challenging yet so rewarding. During my time on this role I was able to develop the Accessible Events Guide, start work on a Sexual Harassment Policy, and build the relationships with the liberation groups. I would love to be able to work alongside an amazing team, to strengthen the LGBTQIA+, Women, POC, WOC, Sex Workers, and under-18s of the Young Greens. We must continue to fight for the rights of underrepresented and less privileged people in society, to ensure we live in an equal world.
I truly believe that young people are the future of this planet. The youth of today are the adults of tomorrow and we should be uplifting, embracing, and supporting them through their time as they learn, grow and make vital decisions in their lives. The pressure on young people today is extortionate, and they need support and guidance, to ensure they are healthy, happy and safe.
I have been passionate about tackling the mental health crisis for years, and I have first hand experience of mental health issues impacting my life in ways I never thought possible. From being signed off work for an indefinite period, going back to therapy, group therapy sessions, counselling and so much more. I am in awe of the treatment I received on the NHS, however I know this isn’t the case for most people. We need to fund our mental health services and improve the education surrounding mental health. Because of this, I believe that the Young Greens Executive NEEDS someone that members can turn to when they don’t feel 100%. We are a community, a team, a family all fighting for the same thing. I would love to take on a welfare aspect of any role to ensure our membership is healthy, and to ensure we are being accessible to all, including those who suffer with invisible disabilities.
I am currently the South East Young Greens Co-Convenor, and was able to contribute to our amazing election success alongside the rest of the incredible team. I was also lucky enough to be selected as one of the 10 candidates (the only Young Green!) representing the Green Party in the South East region of the European Elections. Being a part of this amazing Green movement has been incredible, but being able to lead a team alongside Sam Alston and be a part of an incredible line up of Green candidates blew me away and I am so grateful for these opportunities.
My top priorities if I were elected would be:
To ensure we are being accessible to all by checking events, workshops, campaigns and media beforehand to ensure we are reaching out to as many groups in society and going out of our way to be inclusive.
To protect the welfare of our members by having an Officer on EC they can reach out to, speak to and raise any concerns that they do not feel would fit under the Complaints procedure.
To tackle inequality within the party by promoting and supporting our liberation groups & by constantly pushing for better representation within our party, including POC and the working class.
Please consider me for your Young Green Executive Committee.
