E7: Edward Frank
- Which role are you applying for?:
- EC Non-Portfolio Officer
I am putting myself forward to stand as a Non-Portfolio Officer of the YG EC, I was co-opted into this position in February of this year as one of the campaign and communications officers. Its been great meeting people with similar mindsets and I have been learning new skills whilst in this position. I live in a housing estate in a small town on the Scottish borders where the green party has not been that visible in the past, meeting some inspiring Young Greens from elsewhere in the UK inspired me to start running a cross border campaign on green issues and this has been going quite successful so far. We have held a climate strike and have had meetings with members from the North East Greens and Scottish Greens. I am planning to build on this with an up and coming strike and more talks/meeting in the coming weeks and months. I want to build and increase the coverage beyond what we have already achieved and reach people who would otherwise not be interested in the issues we are fighting for. With the growing interest eventually I want to hold a gathering over a few days where green minded people from all over the UK and beyond can come together share their thoughts and ideas about the climate and how we can tackle the issues we are facing.
I am a dad of 2 children, and I will have another little girl in 2/3 weeks at the time of writing this. I find it scary what sort of world they are going to be part of not just because the worries of the climate but the way the outside world might treat them, I live in an area where it can be hard to find employment, the school I attended is ranked in the bottom 10% of schools in England, we are an hour away from our nearest A&E, opportunities are limited compared to elsewhere in the UK. Communities have been forgotten around the UK, now the pits are gone, ship building, car plants the list goes on these industries have not been replaced, these communities have not been supported, we as greens need to go and help these people, educate about climate change, campaign for better services. We should not have mass homelessness and foodbanks in 2019. My son has a genetic condition which he inherited from his mum, this effects his eye sight and can effect his organs, by the time he was 1 he had been rushed to hospital in an ambulance 9 times, I know what its like not to have a home to and worry where I’m going to sleep at night, I know the struggles of living in a forgotten area.
I sit on a committee campaigning for a better hospital and better medical services in my area, I’m part of a group which promotes workers rights and employment and I am involved with tourist and local projects which helps promote the area and create jobs. I don’t just to want to support my area I want to help all community’s and with the knowledge and skills I have gained I feel I can make a real difference also I know I can learn a lot and I’m grateful for the support that the Green Party has given me.
